Building Friendships

Friendships begin to develop during childhood and are a vital piece of growing up.

We learn how to interact with others, agree and disagree with someone, share kind comments and gestures with one another, and form friendships with people with similar interests.

At Christine Ann Domestic Abuse Services, our Youth Team talks a lot about different friendship flags; both the good and bad. There are friendship green flags which are positive characteristics to look for in a friendship. There are also red flags in friendship that display unhealthy characteristics.

Friendship GREEN Flags:

  • Accepts Who You Are

  • Tells the Truth

  • Respects Your Thoughts

  • Safe With Self and/or Others

  • Quality Time Together and Apart

  • Says Nice Words

Your friendships should be filled with GREEN!

Friendship RED Flags:

  • Tells Lies

  • Unsafe With Self and/or Others

  • Tells You Who to Hang Out With

  • Says Mean Words

  • Ignores Your Thoughts

  • Tries to Change Who You Are

Talk with a safe adult if your friendship is turning RED.

Good friends are open, honest, and kind to one another.

They appreciate and celebrate each other’s differences. It is great to surround yourself with positive people. When you start to see red flags in a friendship, it is important to contact a safe adult to talk about it.

Help is also here at Christine Ann Domestic Abuse Services. Call our 24/7 hotline to speak to an advocate (920) 235-5998.
