Did you know May is Bike Safety Month?

Safety & Awareness | May 1, 2019

By: Ashley Tracy, CHES Planner-Safe Routes to School

Bike Safety Month focuses on increasing bicycle safety and encourages students to bicycle to school.

This year, Bike to School Day will be held on Wednesday, May 8 and will be celebrated by over 90 schools throughout the East Central Region.

To celebrate Bike to School Day and Safe Kids Week, Safe Kids Fox Valley coalition members will be attending events throughout the region. The Safe Routes to School program is excited to partner with Safe Kids Fox Valley for Bike to School Day!

In addition to Bike to School Day, there will be various bike rodeos and family bike rides throughout the Fox Valley. Come join us on May 18 from 9:00am-2:00pm for the first annual Arya Cares Family Bike Ride at Menominee Park!

This bike ride is special because it is memory of a wonderful little girl, Arya. Last May Ayra was practicing riding her bicycle and was wearing her helmet. Tragically, she rolled out into the roadway and was struck by a vehicle. Life saving measures were taken and Arya was transported to a local hospital. Arya became an angel that day and our community mourned the loss of this amazing little girl who always had a sparkling in her eyes. Help us remember Arya and raise money by participating in this bike ride! Funds raised will be used for: building children’s playgrounds at parks and schools and funding for fieldtrips and other children’s activities.
